Young Couple Find a New Style of Rural Living at The Courtyard

We are delighted to announce that Axwell Park has recently welcomed two new residents, Lauren and Carl Bennett, to the Courtyard.

Lauren, who works as an animator in Gateshead comments: “After over a year searching for a new home, we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have found The Courtyard.  We were previously based in the Ouseburn Valley so we were used to living right in the heart of the city, close to the nightlife of Newcastle but also the eateries and pubs of Heaton.  The urban lifestyle was something we both really enjoyed and so we had stayed within this area during our home search with very little success.”

Carl and Lauren never quite found the right balance of space and lifestyle that could match their aspirations for a new home until they happened upon a sign advertising The Courtyard whilst on the way to walk their dog in Chopwell Woods.  

Lauren continues: “We were so focused on staying near to the city that we had never even considered looking slightly further afield.  After walking our dog, we went back to where we saw the sign and drove up the tree-lined road to Axwell Park, not really expecting to find anything which suited us given the fairly rural location.  As soon as we drove through the woods surrounding the park and Axwell Hall came into view, I immediately knew this was where I wanted to live – I had never seen anything quite like it.

“We started looking around the main building and were just blown away.  The space within the apartment and the light that poured in through the beautiful sash windows with views all over the park was just unbelievable.  We immediately started to discuss how we could make The Courtyard our home.”

Lauren and Carl purchased Unit 23, a two bedroom apartment on the corner of The Courtyard with views overlooking the Grade II* listed Axwell Hall and the stunning 35 acres of grounds within the wider Axwell Park. 

Lauren continues: “It just goes to show that sometimes you don’t know what you’re looking for until you see it.  I would never have considered Blaydon previously, thinking it was too far from the city centre lifestyle we felt we needed but everything that was wrong with the properties we visited was so very right at The Courtyard.  For example, the houses we visited seemed old and damp and even just finding parking spaces to view the properties was always difficult in the busy and cramped streets. 

“That seems a world away from the peace and quiet we find at Axwell Park. Parking is never an issue as we have the full Courtyard space and as the building itself is part of a new build development in private parkland, we get to enjoy living amongst the heritage and history of an 18th century estate but enjoy the benefits of living in a brand new apartment.

“Working so close to the city, it really feels like a retreat for myself and Carl to be able to drive into the park and escape the noise and hustle and bustle of daily life for the peace of our own part of a private estate.  But that’s not to say we don’t enjoy the locality, I’ve timed it perfectly that I’m only 4 minutes drive to the Metrocentre for all the shops and restaurants and even better, it’s only a £10 taxi journey from the centre of town – which suits our lifestyle and social commitments perfectly.

“Living at The Courtyard has been a wonderful way to actually improve our lifestyle even more.  Now, we get to enjoy the city and everything it has to offer but also have some distance to relax and enjoy living in the most unique and beautiful surroundings.  It’s been an eye-opener to a life we didn’t realise we wanted but we are just so grateful that this is our own home.”
